WSU’s Division of Organic Chemistry is happy to report that, in partnership with Oregon State University, the NIH has funded the Pacific Northwest Undergraduate Research Symposium on Organic Chemistry and Chemical Biology. The first symposium was held in August of 2008. With this recent funding, the symposium will continue through 2011 and be held on the campus of WSU in 2010. Read more here.
Professor Ming Xian is featured in the March 16th edition of Chemical & Engineering News. Read more. Professor Xian also received WSU College of Sciences "Young Faculty Performance" award.
Funding News
More good news for Professor Berkman, who was just awarded $134,000.00 from the National Science Foundation's Small Grants for Exploratory Research. Professor Berkman will use these funds to study the self-activation of N-phosphorylated amino acids for peptide synthesis.
Professor Ming Xian just received a Scientist Development Award from the American Heart Association to explore ”New Chemical Probes for Nitric Oxide Research." The amount of the award was $308,000 for 4 years.
Congratulations to Professor Cliff Berkman who was recently awarded three grants. Cliff, along with Professors Paul Benny (chemistry) and Jeffrey Bryan (veterinary clinical sciences) were awarded $622,266 from the Department of Energy over two years to explore the “Development of Prostate Specific Membrane Antigen (PSMA) Inhibitors Coupled to 99mTc(C0)3 for Enhanced Specific Activity for SPECT Imaging.”
In addition, Cliff was awarded $357,679 from the National Institutes of Health to study “Chemoaffinity Agents for Capturing Prostate Cancer Cells” and $679,964 from the Life Sciences Discovery Fund to study “Chemoaffinity Agents for the Detection of Prostate Cancer”
Congratulations to Professor Jeffrey Jones (chemistry) who along with and Matthew Hudelson (mathematics) were awarded a grant from the National Institutes of Health to study “Predicting Rates and Regioselectivity in Cytochrome P450 Mediated Reactions” The grant award of $1.6 million is for five years.
